February 12, a special day for a citrus farmer. It is a good day to figure that you are finally out of freeze danger. The California citrus crop is generally most at risk of freezing during the time period from the second week in December till Lincolns birthday. On Lincolns birthday you can best bet you'll start seeing almond blooms beginning to pop in the San Joaquin Valley of Ca which means frost danger is gone. If it were to freeze during almond bloom there would be no almonds!
This winter has been exceptionally mild so far, besides our 3 weeks of winter that we had back in December. Since then the weather has been great for working and getting things done as we have not had any rain days slowing us down here on the farm. It has been full speed ahead as far as work goes.
Lincolns birthday weekend this year was full of color and goodness. All you can eat sunshine, and wildflower patches so vibrant they'd almost knock your eyes out! It's a beautiful time to be in citrus country here in Ca. The green and colorful foothills that border the orange belt of Ca will always hold a special place in my heart.
